In the engineering field, he was successful in identifying new clients and building strong relationships, resulting in partnerships of strong trust. He enjoys coaching others in maintaining and building these relationships. Successful marketing programs often utilize a variety of focused activities, such as:

  • Early identification of client problems
  • Development of unique solutions
  • Assembling a superior team of internal staff and tactical partnerships
  • Targeted communication with decision makers, and after winning the job,
  • Continued management of project progress to insure a successful conclusion.

Mr. Ballard led the development of his company's first business plan, combining the marketing, operations, human resources, and financial components. In essence, it was the first statement of what the company was and combined their vision, their values, and their growth and financial goals into one comprehensive document. The steps involved were:

  • Interviewing selected clients and staff at all levels p
  • Developing an initial vision for the company p
  • Guiding the refinement of this vision at a retreat of senior management p
  • Aligning all employees to this vision and motivating all of them to overcome the inevitable obstacles that would block their path, and finally
  • Celebrating victories along the way.

The above subsidiary company grew from 140 to over 400 employees and annual revenue from $12 million to $33 million in three years while Mr. Ballard was President and CEO.

Business Operations and Profitability

While strategic and business planning requires a strong leadership function, operations and company profitability rely heavily on management functions. The bottom line is driven by a company's ability to have consistent, repeatable results. As CEO of a subsidiary company, as well as Regional Manager of several operations, Mr. Ballard was responsible for the following business components that drive profitability:

  • Delivering quality products and services
  • Investing in employee training and development
  • Negotiating sound contracts, often with incentive clauses to benefit the client-company partnership
