Scott Dedman

In 1997 he was appointed by North Carolina Speaker of the House to serve on the Board of the North Carolina Housing Partnership, a statewide body which develops policies and budgets for the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund.  In addition to his continued service with that body, he serves as Board Treasurer for Helpmate (the family violence organization) and vice chair of the Board of the Empowerment Resource Center, which operates the radio station WRES 100.7 FM.  He is immediate past president of the Board of the Affordable Housing Coalition of Asheville and Buncombe County.

Scott is a native of Red Bank, Tennessee (near Chattanooga) and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia.  Before joining the MHO staff, he worked as legal educator for Pisgah Legal Services in Asheville from 1981 to 1993.

Before moving to Asheville in 1981 Scott worked as a farm laborer for a tree nursery in Tennessee, as a bellhop for Marriott hotels in Washington, D.C. and New Orleans, and as a railroad switchman and conductor for Norfolk and Western Railroad for four years on the south side of Chicago.
