Laura Shiver

Laura Shiver is our Leadership Coordinator. Prior to joining Leadership Asheville, Laura developed and led Youth Leadership Asheville at Children First of Buncombe County, a local nonprofit. At Children First through a partnership with The Points of Light Foundation, Laura was the Youth Engaged in Service (YES) Ambassador to North Carolina for two years. During her tenure there, she led workshops and provided technical assistance to communities around the issues of youth leadership, service-learning, youth voice, dialogues, and civic engagement.

Originally from Belle Glade, FL, a small farming town in the Everglades of South Florida, she has enjoyed the close community feel of western North Carolina and the neighborliness she has experienced. Following graduation from Rollins College with a degree in sociology, Laura moved to Asheville to join AmeriCorps. Convinced that there are few finer places to live, Laura has made Asheville her home and is committed to developing leaders of all ages in our community.
