• Economic Development Service Project
  This team designed a resource guide to help entrepreneurs, small business owners, and organizations that work with small business owners to know about and determine the most useful and appropriate services currently available in Asheville/Buncombe County. • Education Service Project
  This team developed a process to recognize exceptional early childhood development teachers in Buncombe County’s Smart Start programs and reward those teachers with a gift of $2,000 to be presented at an awards ceremony.  The goal is to maintain and enhance talented candidates devoted to the development of Buncombe County’s young children.

• Government Service Project
  This team compiled a guide, “Understanding Annexation,” which reviews each of the areas likely to affect citizens if annexation takes place.  This guide included: what happens to insurance rates, fire protection, law enforcement, zoning and land use regulations, garbage collection, and the provisions of water and sewer.

• Infrastructure Service Project
  This team completed a survey of City owned properties to determine if such surplus properties could be sold to the private or nonprofit sector to be used to construct affordable housing.  Their findings were included in a brochure, which would be available to those interested in building affordable housing in our community.

• Private Sector Service Project
  This team followed up on previous Leadership Asheville class’ efforts to organize a Youth Leadership program by interviewing individuals, agencies, and organizations that may be interested in sponsoring such a program.  Their recommendation was to explore the possibility of teaming with the YMCA to strengthen an existing program rather than creating a separate program.

• Quality of Life Service Project
  This team joined the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, Quality Forward, NCDOT, and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce to implement the Great Asheville/Buncombe Clean Up (GABC).  This Leadership Action Team coordinated the GABC kickoff event and along with Asheville Smoke Hockey Team members, presented skits and distributed anti-litter materials at several elementary schools.
