- Economic Development
This team researched and reported on the Asheville-Buncombe economic development entities as well as any unmet needs, service gaps, area improvements, and related public relations/education. They also addressed distinct segments of the continuum such as minority business, the Arts and ethnic communities.

- Education Project
This team worked with Emma Elementary School to help raise the children’s scores on writing tests. The groups worked with a fourth grade class, helping them prepare for a crucial writing test and worked with a first grade class reading to the children. This group outside of the classroom, recorded short books on tapes, making cutouts to support teacher’s crafts, donated cartons and rolls of paper for the school, gave the teachers a $120 gift certificate to the educational supply store Teacher’s Edition, and donated other supplies.

This team helped Asheville Middle School eighth graders simulate an Asheville City Council meeting. Members of the real council were on hand to play the role of public, asking questions and offering advice. The “Kids on Council” project aimed to teach middle school students about government, making it accessible and inviting to young minds.

This team led the construction of a recycling bin specially designed to facilitate ease of use by elementary students. This bin and the program will serve as models for implementing recycling programs throughout the city’s elementary schools.

This team developed and held a series of trade specific forums presenting the apprenticeship program to business leaders. The team specifically focused on developing a cost-benefit analysis for businesses in the Asheville area.
